Program Structure & Competition Levels
Our teams are structured to provide appropriate levels of competition, development, and exposure based on commitment and skill level. Program details may vary slightly by team.
Local Teams
- Compete in 6 Maine-based tournaments
- Participate in approximately 16–18 structured practices
- Focus on skill development, team chemistry, and foundational game concepts
- Ideal for athletes looking to compete locally while continuing to build their game
Regional Teams
- Compete in 6 Maine tournaments
- Travel to 2 out-of-state tournaments
- Participate in approximately 20–22 structured practices
- Designed for athletes seeking increased competition and broader exposure while maintaining strong regional roots
National Teams
- Compete in premier National Showcase Tournaments
- Participate in approximately 26–30 high-level practices
- Focused on advanced development, elite competition, and maximum exposure opportunities
- Structured for athletes committed to competing at the highest level within the program
Tournament Affiliations
- Boys Teams (National): Compete in Made Hoops tournaments, known for high-level competition and strong regional exposure.
- Boys Teams (Local/Regional): Compete in Zero Gravity, BasketBull, Maine Hoops, and other Spring Classics all of which are competitive environments.
Thunder Mission
Thunder Basketball exists to ignite passion and build excellence in young athletes through disciplined development rooted in power, strength, and fundamentals. Guided by our philosophy of “Human Before Hoops” and our motto “FAM on 3,”we are a family committed to supporting one another through every practice, challenge, victory, and moment of growth.
Our professional coaching staff provides structured, high-level skill development within a competitive yet supportive Southern Maine environment. Thunder athletes are developed through hard work, relentless practice, and doing things the right way — building not only elite basketball skill, but also character, leadership, and resilience. Thunder is where committed athletes train with purpose and are developed to reach their maximum potential.
