Coach Abi Davids is a former collegiate basketball and soccer player at New England College and The College of St Rose. He also played semi-professional basketball in the UK. Coach Abi has coached basketball in England, France and the Czech Republic. He coached at the College level for 3 years in England before starting his own training program (Nexstep Basketball). Nexstep Basketball provided players year round basketball training and a chance to visit prep schools and colleges in the US to play for a chance to attend those schools on an athletic scholarship. Nexstep Basketball brought Coach Abi to Maine where he has been the Thunder Basketball Director and Trainer for 10 years and the Maine Firecrackers Director and Trainer for 4 years.
Coach Abi has a wealth of knowledge about how to help players improve both physically and mentally in the game. He mixes biomechanics, fundamental skills and creative problem solving within his training sessions to build the full player.
He has worked with and continues to work with JP Estrella, Tennessee and Mackenzie Holmes, Seattle Storm.
Coach Abi believes the journey and the process should be the focus. The destination is a bi product of the work.
Like all of the trainers in our program, he is also of the belief that we must develop the HUMAN alongside the HOOPER!

Coach Palencia brings extensive playing and coaching experience to basketball development. As a varsity player at both Hartland Christian School and Maine Central Institute (MCI) beginning in 8th grade, he developed a deep understanding of the game from an early age.
His coaching journey started at his alma mater, Hartland Christian, where he served as head assistant coach for the 2019 ACEL Championship team. This early success led him to Southern Maine Community College, where he discovered his passion for youth development through Maine Thunder/Firecracker basketball.
Beginning as an intern with Thunder/Firecracker basketball, Coach Palencia quickly proved his value and was promoted to Youth Boys Director in 2022, a position he continues to hold today. Currently, he also serves as associate head coach for Kent's Hill School's men's prep varsity basketball team, where he has helped develop players who have gone on to compete at Division I, II, and III levels—with several still actively playing.
Coaching Philosophy
Coach Palencia's approach centers on individualized player development. He works closely with each athlete to understand their unique strengths and areas for growth, tailoring instruction in both skills and techniques to maximize each player's potential.
His methodology combines theoretical basketball knowledge with practical application, ensuring players develop both the basketball IQ and physical skills necessary to excel. This comprehensive approach creates well-rounded players who understand not just what to do, but why they're doing it.
"The small details can make or break talent." This attention to detail, combined with his commitment to developing the whole person, defines his approach to coaching and mentoring the next generation of players.
